Week 2

We went to Te Papa today, I went off with Sarah and we observed tourists together. The exhibit we went to was Gallipoli: The scale of war.

Here were some of the things we observed about the tourists roaming about and the exhibition:

  • information is easily located
  • have to hand luggage in
  • staff everywhere
  • live visual narration all around
  • tourists liked the interactive screens around the exhibit but they don't linger too long.
  • tourists like to touch stuff (maybe like a sensory experience)
  • they tend to flock to where the people tend to be
  • they tend to stare at people interacting with an exhibition before approaching it themselves
Other notes I took down include
  • "experience doesn't have to end when you leave"
  • "website is for planning you coming here"
  • "look-up experience"
  • digital way-finding
  • intimate experience
  • engagement and participation with exhibition
  • generate revenue in sustainable way
  • suggested tours for different time
